Mein Jahr in Neuseeland

Kia ora guys

My name is Victoria and I want to tell you a little bit about my great time on the other side of the world. I was in New Zealand for 7 months to make an exchange. For all of you who do not know where New Zealand is, Australia is pretty much the only neighbor.  My flight was 11 hours and 44 minutes from Frankfurt to Singapore and from Singapore about 9 hours to Auckland, which is right up the top from New Zealand.

The little town (we would call it) where I lived is called Whangarei and is the biggest town up north with about 48.000 inhabitants.  Whangarei is closed to the sea that is why it has a lot of beaches. My school was called Kamo High School. It is a school with 90 teachers and 1.400 students. If you are asking yourself now, it the school system the same as we have in Germany? How is their school life? School starts at 9.00 am and finishes every day at 15.15 pm. And yes, the school life is completely different! Even the subjects, they can choose what they want to study. They don´t have to take math, English or an international language; they can just have art, music, sports, drama and lots more fun things. Now you are probably thinking let us go J And I can tell each and every one of you, If you have the chance to have a stay somewhere else in the world, even for a little time it is the best thing you can do. You learn a lot about yourself and about different cultures and you can improve a language. It makes you see the world and other people in a completely different way. But don´t think that you go overseas and you don´t have to work ;)

My host family was a woman with an age of 65 years. To be honest I was a bit shocked when I was reading the information about her. Oh my god, I am just going to live with one woman? I expected a whole family with kids and all that. But I have to say it could not have been better. She was amazing and we loved each other from the first moment. She dealt with me as I was her child. Colleen, that´s her name has 3 children and 12 siblings. Oh yes, I thought the same. A big, big family. But my opinion is that it was great to make some experiences like that.

All in all, I had a great time and enjoyed it. I hope that every one of you can get the chance to make such an experience. If any of you have any questions you can ask me all the time. I would be happy to answer your questions.

All the best, and thank you for being interesting and reading my little story.
